I really loved the Dujac Morey 05 I had last night, it was quite delicious and this got me thinking about ‘premium’ village level Burgundy. There are a few producers who give their basic offerings real stuffing and they are proper wines by any definition of the word. I’ve plucked a few of my favourite out of the air and if you can think of others feel free to add them.

One I should have added (which I hope someone votes for) is Lambrays Morey. I bloody love Thiery Brouin’s wines; since 1998 they’ve been stunning.
You’ve listed some really nice Village level wines. For me, Rouget makes an excellent Vosne Romanee. And while the wine is not cheap, it’s a brilliant example of quality Village.
Vosne-Romanee is a special pleasure and Rouget makes good stuff. I also think Chambolle is a special pleasure. Special in a good way.
I attempted multiple voting, but unfortunately it didn’t work. My typically Balkan reaction is to question what kind of a world is it without cheating?
Hear Hear. Tempted by the Dujac Morey, but decided to add Fourrier Gevrey instead. I now wish to switch my vote to Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne please, and tomorrow I think perhaps Mugnier’s Chambolle. That 4 will do perfectly !
My problem is not indecisiveness. I just wanted to vote several times for the same one.
I know what both Peters mean, there are some lovely wines there which really are a total treat to drink and deserve several votes each. We may all be flash gits who drink grander things on occasion, but any one of those wines would put a smile on my face.
There have been so many times when I have mistaken Dujac Morey Village for something grander. It ages superbly. Remember the ’82s? It has so often blown away wines that are supposed to be much grander. It’s given so much pleasure down the years. Sure, the Roumiers and Mugniers, and others, are great as well. But our tastes in wine are partly subjective, and to a considerable degree based on nice memories of good times. Maybe it is sentimentality, but Dujac Morey Village has to be my choice.
Oh Peter, you are so reasonable (in a pleasingly passionate manner). Yes, many, many great memories of Dujac Morey; what a lovely wine. One vintage I really enjoyed is one that is usually sniffed at by people like me: 1992. I remember the fresh vivacity of fruit it had. Probably none left in the world now. I hope not, anyway, it should have been drunk with hilarious pleasure a few years back.
