Feel-better headache-juice

These antipsychotics do not kick in instantly (bums) and blow me if I’ve gone caught some trivial but irksome physical illness as well. I need hearty food and hearty booze to sustain me. Turns out my online supermarket had a deal on Fonseca Guimaraens – hooray! Beef is being braised and I am being boozed up.

Guimaraens is not the greatest port in the world, but it’s one hell of a lot better than most filth LBV stuff one sees in supermarkets. It is sold with enough bottle age to be quite drinkable from the minor vintages it is made from. Luckily it still has enough fire to perk up rancid bodies and dysfuntional minds. The beef stew that contains half the bottle will be ace!

Guimaraens Port 1996, Fonseca

A broodingly intense, rich nose of fiery fruit. Plums and blackcurrants, I’d suggest, mixed with a lot of booze, obviously. It is very lively and charged with vigorous energy – that’s quite appealing for one who needs a metaphorical banger up my body and brain. Yes, it is really is quite the lively one. It’s not exactly jammy in the ‘15% filth Australian Shiraz’-style, but the fruit is extremely ripe. As such, this smells far more satisfying and improving than those god-awful soupy horrors. Soupy is one thing this palate is not. The tannins are charged with vim and the alcohol level has a definite max power burn. There’s acidity too – hooray! I love the richly complex fruit that suggests for a moment it has softened with age then explodes on your palate with supreme excitement. It is not amazingly complex, it is true, and the length is only so good, but if you want a good bottle of pretty classy Port this delivers quite well. My one glass has made me less bothered by my body aching and less convinced The Editor will die if I go to a different room than him. Yeah, not much fun, that psychosis-lark. But Port IS FUN, and I suggest you drink plenty of it to keep healthy and purple over the winter months.

In other news, I promised I would model any clothes I was sent from my online wish list for my up-coming third birthday. Someone, who wishes to remain anonymous, has got in pretty sharpish and sent me these overalls:
